My hair is now longer than shown, but the face is the same. It was either give you this picture or provide you with a putrid "glamour shot" from several years ago. This picture at least looks like me. | ||||||||||
Welcome to my Homepage! |

This website contains everything you'd like to know about my classes and probably quite a bit you'd rather stay in the dark about. You'll find herein course requirements, syllabi, handouts, resource links, and a variety of other tools to help you progress through your course(s). Some of my past English 102 students dubbed me the "cool but strict" teacher. By "strict" they meant that I worked them hard, but from the comments they made about the course, I generally found that they enjoyed the course despite--and in some cases, because of--the challenging pace and materials. I do expect students to adhere to my course guidelines, including the ever-dreaded attendance policy and assignment due dates. If you're the sort of student who likes to flout rules or buck authority, then I suggest you switch to a different section. This summer I'm teaching Humanities 100 (online) and English 101 (web-enhanced). Click on the appropriate link below to view the required materials or to access the course WebBoard. You will require a login and password to access the course website, which I will provide to you in an email. Please note that this login and password is different from the one you will use to log in to WebBoard for our course discussions. If you are taking English 101, you should understand that my course is "web-enhanced," which means that we will use WebBoard for some of our course discussions and peer reviews. Most of the course materials will be available to you online rather than handed out in class. |

How to Contact Me: You may contact me at home any time. If you call after 10 p.m. or before 7 a.m., however, I may be grumpy. When I am not home, my answering machine will gladly take your call, and I will return your call as soon as possible. I am most effectively reached via email (I'm an email junkie and check my email frequently) or at home. Please do not feel as though you are imposing when you call me at home--if I felt student calls were an imposition, I would not provide you with my home phone number. I am also available often when I am online through various instant messenger and chat programs. See Contact Information above for my Yahoo IM, ICQ, and AOL Instant Messenger nicknames. If you are online and see me online, too, feel free to pop a message over! Response Time: Generally I respond to email messages within 24 hours of receiving them, and often much sooner. Exceptions occur on weekends and holidays, when you can generally expect a 48-hour turnaround time. If I will be away from my computer for an extended period of time, I will let students know when they can expect me to respond. |
