Hello! I've been teaching at RCC since 1996, and graduated from here myself in '89 with an A.S. degree in Psychology. I have a B.A. in Psychology from the University of IL, Springfield, and a M.S. in Family Development and Education from Friend's University in Wichita, KS. I'm also a Certified Family Life Educator through the National Council on Family Relations and earned my Master Online Teaching Certificate in 2003. I love teaching both online and on campus classes, and getting to know my students each semester is awesome! I'm married to Ron and have a son, Ollie, and a step-daughter, Chancie. Since they are both teenagers, my house is hectic! We also have a poodle named Dottie who everyone spoils! In my spare time, which isnt' much (!), I like to run, bike, and ride my motorcycle with my husband!

Introduction to Sociology (SOCIO110)

• Description: This class provides a basic introduction to the discipline of sociology. The course will explore various topics inclucing the basic perspectives of sociology; methods of sociological research; culture; socialization; group dynamics; deviance; issues related to race, ethnicity, gender, and age; education; religion; and issues pertaining to marriage and family.
• Prerequisite: Eligibility for ENGL101

Parenting (SOCIO125)

• Description: This class studies various issues and trends in parenting. Topics include the nature of parenting and how it has changed throughout history; parent-child interactions through various developmental stages; how parents influence a child's personal/social/educational growth; the influence of different family structurs (i.e. step-families) on children; trends in social attitudes as they pertain to children and families; and issues including child abuse, special needs children, and divorce.
• Prerequisite: 1 college level course in either Psychology or Sociology

Marriage and Family (SOCIO200)

• Description: Marriage and Family examines patterns of dating, courtship, and marriage with consideration given to the relationship between parents, children, and other members of the family. Issues discussed include definitions of love; communication; conflict resolution; sexual intimacy; gender roles; how to manage economic resources; stages of family development; stress, abuse, and family problems; divorce; step-parenting; and how to strengthen marriages and families.
• Prerequisite: Completion of SOCIO110 or PSYCH110

Introduction to Psychology (PSYCH110)

• Description: The course examines the psychological approaches to the study of human behavior and mental processes. It includes topics on the biological basis of behavior; sensory and perception; nature and nurture; how we learn; memory; thinking/language/intelligence; motivation; theories of personality development; stress; psychological disorders and therapy; and an introduction to the studies of developmental psychology and social psychology.

Human Growth and Development (PSYCH145)

• Description: HGD covers the interaction and development of human physical, intellectual, and psychosocial behavior from conception until death. Similarities and differences in physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development at all stages of the human life cycle are studied with issues pertaining to each stage studied in depth.
