Here is a rare interview with the Federal Reserve Banking System Chairman, Ben Bernanke.  This 60 Minutes segment does a very nice job of explaining the role of the Federal Reserve and also what they think about the current environment.

This is a 60 Minutes report on the role of the FDIC.  It goes through all the ways they assist failing banks.  The bank for this special was a small community bank in Northern Illinois.  It's kind of interesting to watch them reassure the bank customers and the community in general.

This is a video put together on Ben Bernanke after being named as Time Magazines "Person of the Year".  It is pretty insightful as to his influences and the challenges he faces in one of the most important positions in the world.

This video accompanies the Time Magazine piece on Ben Bernanke.  Here they discuss the influence that the Federal Reserve Banking System has, along with all the assets and tools at their disposal in trying to maintain a balance between Inflation and Economic Growth.

This 60 Minutes segment talks about the impact of California's Water Shortage problem.  It discusses the problems they face in trying to resolve the problem, in addition to the potential outcomes with respect to reduced crop yields.

This video, "Dream Weaving in Rwanda," looks at how the victims (mostly fatherless households) of the Rwanda 1994 Genocide have worked to create new industry in the impoverished areas of the country.  This is a good example of both Economic Development and the Specialization.

Here is a PBS Frontline Video "The Meltdown".  It discusses the sequences leading up to the bank failures and how they were forced to deal with it.  It does a good job of covering a majority of the aspects we discussed in class.

Here is a video from Duke Behavior Economics Professor Dan Ariely about how Consumers face Opportunity Costs.  He does a nice job of explaining the concept and describing how to think about potential trade-offs.



This 60 Minutes segment, "3 Million Open Jobs," discusses the issue of structural unemployment, talking about how even manufacturing jobs are now requiring a specified skill set.

Here is the exchange between Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Congressman Ron Paul.  They are debating the use of gold as currency; the undertone of the debate revolves around Congressman Paul wanting to disband the Federal Reserve and give its authority to government.



Here is a 60 Minutes Segment about Coal Ash.  Coal Ash is the residue that is left over after mining for coal.  Coal is used for both electricity (as is discussed in the segment), but also is used to construct steel.
