- According to a recent Newsweek poll, 64% of Americans oppose a constitutional
amendment to allow a US citizen born in another country, like Schwarzennegger,
to be elected president. This was based on a poll of 1004 adults. Model the
distribution of the sample proportion of American adults who oppose the amendment.
Simulate 200 samples with a sample size of n=1004. http://www.msnbc.com/news/978672.asp?0cv=CB20
- Give a graphical summary of the samples.
- Compare your results to the sampling distribution model for a proportion
given on page 340.
- Create a probability distribution. Take 200 samples of size 500
from your distribution and find the mean of each sample.
- Find the mean, variance, and standard deviation for your distribution
using formulas from chapter 16.
- Find the mean, variance, and standard deviation for the mean of
your 200 samples.
- Compare your results to the Central Limit Theorem on page
345.
- Use the 2000 General Social Survey to gather information
and then the claim that 1/3 of 18-24 year-olds think Marijuana
should
be legal.
- Use the 2000 General Social Survey to determine if the
proportion of black males and black females who feel a
racist should be
allowed to speak
are the
same.
