Chapter 7 & 8 Study Guide
- 1
 - Be able to describe in everyday language what a Type I error or Type II error is.
 - 2-5
 - Know which distribution to use when testing. This could be one mean, one proportion, one variance, two means (dependent case), two means (independent case), two variances, or two proportions.
 - 6
 - Know which level of significance to use when not stated.
 - 7-11
 - Definitions you should know: Level of Significance, Critical Value, Critical Region, Null Hypothesis, Alternative Hypothesis, Prob-Value, and F variable.
 - 12
 - Know the relationshop between the critical value, test statistic, level of significance, and prob-value.
 - 13
 - Know the difference between a decision and a conclusion. Which hypothesis is used. Is it a sentence or a paragraph? Which one answers the question asked?
 - 14
 - Know the difference between a critical value and test statistic as far as which are calculated and which are looked up.
 - 15
 - Know the difference between the classical approach and the prob-value approach to hypothesis testing. Which approach is better suited for which distributions.
 - 16
 - Know the properties of the Standard Normal distribution.
 - 17
 - Know the properties of the Student's t distribution.
 - 18
 - Know the properties of the Chi-Square distribution.
 - 19
 - Know the properties of the F distribution.
 - 20
 - Know which distributions are best served using the classical approach, and which distributions are best served using the prob-value approach.
 - 21
 - Know the decision rules. Reject H0 if ...
 - 22-5
 - Give critical value(s) for the given situations.
 - 26
 - Find a prob-value for a given test statistic (Student's t).
 - 27
 - Give the value from the chi-square table which is better when the degrees of freedom aren't given. For extra credit, interpolate to give a more accurate answer. This extra credit is only for those who read it on the study guide. It does not appear on the exam. I will disavow all knowledge of it in class.
 - 28
 - Know the relationship between the type of test (left tail, right tail, or two tail) and the critical value(s). (Essay [ short answer] ).
 - 29
 - Calculate and F test statistic.
 - 30
 - Write a conclusion from a claim, level of significance, and decision.

Problems 1 - 6 are short answer.
Problems 7 -15 are true-false.
Problems 16 - 21 are multiple-choice.
Problems 22 - are more like a standard math test where you have to come up with the answers on your own.
