## Math 116: Chapter 4 Study Guide

- Three exponential functions with different bases and their graphs are given. You need to
match up the graph to the function.
- Sketch the graph of the exponential function.
- Three logarithmic functions with different bases and their graphs are given. You need to
match up the graph to the function.
- A logarithmic model is given. Convert the logarithmic model to use natural logarithms
(change of base). Sketch the model with an appropriate domain and range (make sure your
viewing window is appropriate). Use the model.
- Evaluate a logarithm using the change of base formula.
- Write the expression as a sum, difference, and/or multiple of logarithms. Two parts.
- Write the expression as the logarithm of a single quantity. Two parts.
- Use the table of logarithms to approximate other logarithms. Three parts. Find the base of the
logarithm used in the table.
- Solve the exponential and logarithmic equations. Give an exact answer and a rounded answer.
Four parts.
- Use a graphing utility to solve an equation. Round the answer to three decimal places.
- Find the equation of the exponential function passing through the given points.

### Notes:

- Most of the problems are directly from the chapter 4 review exercises.
- There is none of 4.6 on the in-class test. I may give you a take home portion with section 4.6
on it.
- I'm still working on how many points each problem is worth. Check back later.
