Office Hours

Faculty are not required to hold office hourse during the summer term. However, the instructor has asked that the classroom be reserved at 10:00 am, immediately following our class, in case students need help. If you anticipate needing help, please let him know ahead of time so that he can make childcare arrangements.

Most of the material in the course will be presented through lecture and web pages. For those who wish to have a book for reference purposes, here is one that will work (and is inexpensive).

Grading Policy

Letter grades will be assigned to final adjusted scores as follows:

• A: 90 - 100%
• B: 80 - 89%
• C: 70 - 79%
• D: 60 - 69%
• F: below 60%

The final score will be weighted according to these three categories:

• Concepts: 50%
• Projects: 40%
• Participation: 10%

Highlights

• You are responsible for all information given in class, even if you are absent.
• Assessment and evaluation will be incorporated into the daily classroom experience. There is no make-up of these daily assessments or quizzes given through Canvas.
• A 10% grace factor will be applied to in-class concept assessments. That is, a 20 point assessment will be recorded as having 18 possible points.
• Projects are due by 5:00 p.m. on their due date unless otherwise stated. Late work loses 20% of its original value for every class period it is late. Students must notify the instructor when late work is submitted. No late work will be accepted after the final.
• Scoring may change if mistakes are found in the grading. This is particularly true of Canvas quizzes. Your score may go up or down, so do not settle for the minimum score, it may not be enough.
• If you miss class during a group mini-project, your grade on the mini-project will be reduced proportional to the amount of class missed.
• You may be dropped if you miss the first day of class or any two consecutive days after that without communicating with the instructor.
• You do not need a graphing calculator, but you should bring a scientific calculator every day.
• You will need to spend time outside class working on projects. Rent Minitab for $30 if you want to work on projects from home (Windows only). http://www.onthehub.com/minitab
• The final is a group capstone project that will demonstrate what you've learned in this class. It will involve a written paper and an oral presentation to the class of your findings.
• This course makes heavy use of technology, but it is not the focus of the course.
