Entering the Data

  1. Label two columns as "male" and "female"
  2. Enter the self-esteem scores into the proper columns.

Performing the Hypothesis Test (Questions 11-14)

The hypothesis test will display the descriptive statistics for you, so you don't need to do them separately.

  1. Go to Stat / Basic Statistics / 2 Sample T
  2. Click on the Samples in different columns radio button
  3. The first sample is male and the second sample is female
  4. Click Options
  5. Make sure the alternative hypothesis is set correctly (see question 6) and that the confidence level is the complement of the significance level.
  6. The "test difference" should be 0, that is, there is no (zero) difference
  7. Click OK
